Google releases Android 4.0 – the Ice Cream Sandwich

Ice cream sandwich
A couple of days ago, google released the next version of the Android OS, called the Ice cream sandwich.  This is the version after Honeycomb which was released largely for large screen devices such as tabs and e-books.

However, Android 4.0 is again the OS for all android devices and unlike Honeycomb, this time, Google has decided to open source Ice cream sandwich.

The first phone to have Ice cream sandwich on it will be the Samsung Galaxy Nexus though apparently all phones capable of running 2.3.x will be able to run 4.0.  For those of you who wish to own the new nexus, the news is that the phone should be out in early November 2011.
